JACKSONVILLE, FL (March 17, 2005)- Earl Pearson Jr. and the Lucas Oil team competed at three events this past weekend in Mississippi and Alabama. On Friday night “Hurricane Earl” competed at the Columbus Motor Speedway in Columbus Mississippi in a $2,000 to win 40-lap feature event. Earl would start the feature from the 5th starting position and immediately pressure the leaders on the first lap for the lead. Earl would swap positions within the top 5 the entire race and finish a strong 3rd place.

On Saturday the Lucas Oil Dunn-Benson Ford team again competed at the Columbus Speedway in a 50-lap $8000 to win feature event. The “Hurricane” would start deep in the field in the 15th starting position for the feature. Earl and the crew led by Frankie Averitt and Matt Langston would find the right chassis setup for the feature and put on an impressive performance for the capacity crowd. “Hurricane Earl” would blow through the field and charge into the top 5 early into the event. As Earl got closer to the front his car got better and better. While running 4th as Earl attempted to pass the second and third place cars, both cars made contact and caused Earl to take elusive action to avoid crashing into their out of control cars at that point. Unfortunately for Earl a caution was thrown and Earl was sent to the rear of the field for the restart on lap 21. Earl never the one to give up marched back through the field only to run out of laps but still managed a 5th place finish.

The Lucas Oil team then traveled overnight to the Green Valley Speedway in Glencoe, AL to compete in the rain delayed “Bama Bash” event from two weeks earlier. Earl would start the 75 lap $16,000 to win feature from the 5th starting position for this daytime event. As to often happens when dirt late model events are held during the daytime, the racetrack usually becomes one-lane and very little passing is the norm. Earl completed all 75 laps and came home with another 5th place finish.

“We had a pretty good weekend all in all. Our car was really good on Saturday and felt like we had the car to win that event in Mississippi, but I got caught up in someone else''s misfortune and had to go to the rear. Still to get three top five finishes for the Lucas Oil team is a good weekend. We are close to getting a win soon if we keep running in the top five”, stated Earl from his home in Jacksonville Florida.

The Lucas Oil Dunn-Benson Ford Motorsports Team will take the next two weekends off while they put together a new car. Their next event will be at Columbus Speedway April 1-2nd for the James King Memorial two-day event paying $2,000 to win Friday night and $10,000 to win on Saturday night. “I''m looking forward to going back to Columbus, I seem to always run real good there but encounter bad luck that keeps me from winning at that track”, states Earl.
